Thomas Florkewicz supervises many of the firm's large-scale projects through the entire construction process. Responsible for the development of construction documents and for construction administration, he assures that design quality is realized in the completed structure. The building types he has been involved with range from libraries and hotels to academic complexes. He was recently the associate in charge of construction for the W Hoboken Hotel and Residential Condominium in Hoboken, New Jersey.
Previously, Mr. Florkewicz was the project architect for the design phase of the Allen County Public Library, which is Fort Wayne, Indiana's central library. The 420,000 sf building expansion and renovation introduced new public spaces, allowed for expanded services and programs, and provided up-to-date technology.
He served in a similar capacity for both the design and construction of the George E. Bello Center at Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island. Part of a campus master plan developed by this office, the 72,000 sf building acts as the campus gateway, public meeting space, conference center and library for the institution.
For the 600,000 sf Graduate Center which is part of The City University of New York, Mr. Florkewicz, as project manager and staff architect, oversaw the conversion of a major portion of a landmark former department store to create a vertical campus.
A registered architect, Mr. Florkewicz joined Gwathmey Siegel in 1996 and was named an associate in 2007.
